Senseo Selut

Senseo is a system for brewing coffee from the Dutch companies Philips and Douwe Egberts. Senseo systems are based on filters, also known as coffeepads (or "caffe pods" in certain countries). The system is famous for its ability to produce espresso-like beverages like cappuccino and cafe latte with just a few clicks of the buttons.

The unique brewing process of Senseo's pressurized method creates a crema coffee layer which is purely coffee and not cream. This is the reason why it gives Senseo its famous flavor and aroma. Senseo coffee is available in different blends, such as mild, regular, mocca and dark roast. There are also varieties that have added flavors like latte and cafe choco. There are also decaffeinated varieties of coffee.

Mondelez, through its Tassimo brand competes with Senseo in the single-serve market. To address competition concerns, the Commission looked into whether there might be a market overlap for Senseo and Tassimo machines (as well as their respective coffee pods) in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. The Commission discovered that there was no overlap between these markets, as Senseo and Tassimo are not each other's closest competitors. Senseo has a tiny market share in each of these countries and the Transaction is unlikely to have a significant impact on this.
